DriveBC has lifted a slew of weather warnings linked to freezing rain and snow.

After a morning in which the provincial highway monitor urged drivers to think twice from travelling on numerous stretches of Highway 16 and Highway 97 due to freezing rain, as of Saturday afternoon, those warnings were restricted to two instances on Highway 16: travel was not recommended from the junction of Highway 16 and Highway 5 at Tete Jaune Cache to the B.C.-Alberta border; and travellers were being "advised to use caution and should consider alternate plans" from the Horsey Creek Road to the B.C.-Alberta border.

The freezing rain also affected Prince George Airport. One flight was forced to turn around Saturday morning, said Lindsay Cotter, the airport's manager of marketing and communications, and was attempting to land Saturday afternoon.

Environment Canada had said the freezing rain was expected to ease early Saturday afternoon.

DriveBC also lifted warnings for other highways in the area, with advisories on rough compact snow remaining in place for: Highway 16 from the the Agate Creek Bridge to the Big Oliver Creek Bridge: Kitimat to the junction with Highway 16 in Terrace (Highway 37); and the junction with Highway 16 in Terrace to Gingolx (Nisga'a Highway).

According to the CBC News, a record-setting snowfall dating is sweeping across Terrace and Kitimat. Kitimat received 120 centimetres of snow dating to Thursday morning and was set for another 10-20 cm Friday night. Kitimat municipal officials asked residents to stay off the roads; all flights from Kitimat-Terrace airport have been cancelled; and power outages have caused problems with the town's water sytem.

Terrace has experienced 111 cm of snow since Thursday.
