A small fire in a bathroom garbage can sparked the evacuation of a local high school Monday afternoon.
Students and staff at D.P. Todd Secondary School were outside for about an hour while Prince George Fire Rescue was called in shortly before 1 p.m.
"There was no significant fire event other than it created some smoke that it sounds like the air handling system picked up and moved throughout the building," PGFR assistant fire chief Cliff Warner said. "So they had to spend a little bit of time just ventilating the smoke out of the building."
Exactly what started the fire remained under investigation.
