Unflappable Prince George Spruce Kings netminder earns Player of the Week nod

If you get past this goaltender, keep the puck.

That’s how good the B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) has perceived Logan Neaton of the Prince George Spruce Kings, who had a stellar start to the 2018-19 Fred Page Cup Finals, making 50 saves on a combined 52 shots in the first two games of the best-of-seven series.

His efforts have been rewarded with the league’s Player of the Week honours for the first time; he also becomes the third Spruce King to receive the honour this season following Corey Cunningham and Ben Brar.

The 20-year-old American import nearly shut the door on the Vernon Vipers in the first game, but still made 23 saves and even lost some blood in the process after taking a puck to the front of his helmet.

He also put up impressive numbers in Prince George’s Game Two win with 27 saves on 28 shots, one of the few games the Spruce Kings have allowed more shots from the opponent in the playoffs.

The Michigan native completed the opening sets with a .962 save-percentage (SV%) and a 1.00 goals-against-average (GAA).

Neaton leads the BCHL playoffs with a .940 SV% and a 1.41 GAA, and is tied for the league lead with two shutouts.

He was also able to keep his composure during two consecutive sold-out crowds at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA), performing in front of 2,112 each night.

The BCHL also recognized the talent of Brar and Layton Ahac, earning honourable mentions in this addition of Player of the Week.

The Spruce Kings are enjoying a 2-0 Finals lead, halfway to their first Fred Page Cup in team history, with Games Three and Four set for tonight (April 16) and tomorrow (April 17) in Vernon.
