The city's unemployment rate stood at 6.5 per cent in November, according to Statistics Canada numbers released Friday.
That's up from 4.4 per cent for November 2014, when there were 52,100 people working, compared to 47,300 last month.
The number of people seeking work last month was 3,300 versus 2,400 a year ago, while those of working age not seeking employment was 21,300 last month, up from 16,800 in November 2014.
Month-over-month, the unemployment rate is down slightly from 6.6 per cent in October, when 48,000 people held down jobs, 3,400 were seeking work and 20,500 were not participating.
The numbers are based on a three-month rolling average and do not say how many are working part-time.
