The city's unemployment rate stood at 4.8 per cent in October, according to the latest Statistics Canada labour market survey.
A year ago, the rate stood at 5.2 per cent but 2,000 more people were holding down jobs at the time.
As of October this year, 47,500 people were working while 2,400 were looking for work, 22,900 of working age were not participating, and the employment rate was 65.2 per cent
Last year at the time, 49,500 were working, 2,700 were seeking jobs and 20,300 were not participating and the employment rate was 68.3 per cent.
In September this year, the unemployment rate was 4.9 per cent, 49,000 were working, 2,500 were seeking employment, 21,300 were not participating and the employment rate was 67.4 per cent.
The numbers are based on a three-month rolling average and the accuracy of the unemployment rate estimated for October was plus-or-minus 0.8 percentage points, 68 per cent of the time. The accuracy of the rate for October 2017 was also 0.8 percentage points and for September 2018, it was 0.7 percentage points.
