The city's unemployment rate stood at 5.8 per cent in February, according to Statistics Canada labour market survey numbers issued Friday.
That's up from 4.4 per cent for the same month last year, when 47,500 people were working compared to 46,800 last month. Concurrently, 2,200 were seeking work in February 2015, compared to 2,900 last month.
However, the unemployment rate is down from January, when it stood at 6.4 per cent, there were 46,500 working and 3,200 seeking jobs.
The numbers are based on a three-month rolling average and count both full-time and part-time workers as employed.
