UNBC women’s basketball spots Prince George all-star for next season

College Heights’ Isabel Fuller staying home to kickstart university career

A two-time Prince George City All-Star is set to light up the scoreboard this fall, making a short move up Tyner Boulevard from College Heights to UNBC.

The Timberwolves’ women’s basketball program has committed Isabel Fuller to the squad for the 2019-20 Canada West season after she graduates from College Heights Secondary this June, where she spent four years the Senior Girls team, including Grade Nine.

“Ever since I started to watch basketball, coming to watch the games, it has been a dream of mine to play at the university level,” said the 17-year-old in a team release today (May 6). “I grew up here, and it is so cool to be able to play with them. I always looked up to them, and it is going to be such a cool experience. I am really excited.”

Fuller took the Cougars to the City Finals this year, ultimately losing to the Duchess Park Condors 72-25, scoring half of those points for her school.

Upon training with the T-Wolves, Fuller has been described as a combo guard even with her five-foot-10 stature, and has also received all-star distinction at the northern zone championships with the College Heights Cougars.

However, she understands transitioning into a higher level of competition will be a major focus between now and attending camp in August.

“The speed is a lot different, and the height. They are all tall and strong. It’s going to be a big adjustment. I really like to push the ball on the fast break. I like to shoot, and get to those baseline shots. I am pretty good at seeing the floor, seeing what is happening in the game, and making plays.”

When UNBC Head Coach Sergey Shchepotkin first took note of Fuller’s talent, having first seen her in the Junior Timberwolves program as young as Grade Six, he knew there was a skill set that needed to be added to his roster.

“She has the desire to get better every time she gets on the court, and has a good frame and athleticism to contribute to our team moving forward. She grew up watching the Timberwolves, and now she can bring that passion for the next five years.”

“Lots of my friends are here, and all my family is here,” adds Fuller on looking forward to playing on the court in her hometown this Fall. “When I put the jersey on, it will be actually happening, and I am really excited. I have always wanted to play university ball, and it happening now is super exciting. I am so excited to have the privilege to play with UNBC.”

Academically, Fuller is enrolling in UNBC’s General Studies program after completing high school as an honour roll student.

She also joins former teammate Jessica Nycholat, who graduated from College Heights a year earlier and signed with the T-Wolves last month.
