It seems that more and more recruits want to join in on the record-setting seasons from the Timberwolves last year.

UNBC has announced guard Anastasia Soltes' commitment to the women's basketball team starting next season.

“I am so excited to have made it official and be playing basketball with the Timberwolves at the U SPORTS level," she says in a release. "The Timberwolves had such a fantastic season, and I really enjoyed following along. I am so excited to be joining such a great program.”

Stoles can be a double threat, being comfortable with running the offence or playing off the ball.

She came to Prince George to visit the school this past winter and practiced with the team.

“When I came on a visit to UNBC, I loved how serene the environment was, and I could really see myself studying there and thriving in basketball," Stoles adds. "The facilities were amazing. I loved the campus and thought it was so beautiful. When I saw the amazing gym, I was blown away, and it made me excited to play there for the next five years.”

The 5'7" Alberta native will graduate Henry Wise Wood High school in June and plans to enroll in Environmental Studies at the University of Northern British Columbia.

She was MVP at Henry Wise Wood, including a 39-point game during the year, while also being an instrumental factor in helping the team win a City Championship.

“I think the biggest adjustment from high school to U SPORTS will be the toughness and strength of the girls," Stoles adds in the release. "Over the next five years, you will see I am an agile player who likes to drive to the basket, but also look for the open kickout. I love to make space, and take the three if it’s there. Defense is my strength, and I love to pick off passes or steal from my opponents.”

Head Coach of the UNBC women Sergey Shchepotkin is thrilled to have a talented player but more importantly a strong presence on the defensive end of the floor.

“I am really excited to add Anastasia to our team," he says in the release. "She has an incredible work ethic, and plays with passion and quickness at both ends of the floor. Her intensity and willingness to work will make our defense better. This is an important piece for us.”

Stoles will officially start with her new team when training camp begins in August.
