UNBC wins Clean Energy BC award

The Clean Energy Association of British Columbia will present the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) with an environmental stewardship award for its bioenergy plant.

The Clean Energy Association of British Columbia will present the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) with an environmental stewardship award for its bioenergy plant.

"The bioenergy plant at UNBC is a logical extension of the university's mission to be responsive to northern communities," Clean Energy BC said in a press release.

"Located at the epicentre of Canada's largest forestry and bioenergy region, UNBC implemented its bioenergy project to serve as a platform for applied research and education.

"UNBC worked with B.C.-based Nexterra and local companies to implement the bioenergy system that is one the cleanest in North America.

"It will offset fossil fuel consumption on the Prince George campus by 85 per cent."

The award will be presented during Clean Energy BC's Generate 2011 conference, which starts Saturday and continues through Tuesday.
