UNBC has again taken gold at Western Canada's university-level business and commerce championships.

There were 19 categories in the Jeux De Commerce-West event this year, held in Vancouver. Northern B.C.'s representatives brought home first place in the accounting category.

The Jeux De Commerce was started in 1989 as the pan-Canadian business leadership championships for universities. In 2006 there was an amicable split to form the JDC-West event, to allow more schools of business to participate with a closer-to-home competition.

In 2013, there were 12 schools and 600 delegates from all four Western Canadian provinces vying for gold, silver and bronze in each area of expertise.

All categories in JDC-West are tied to academic disciplines taught by Canada's post-secondary institutions. Those divisions are: accounting, business strategy, entrepreneurship, finance, human resources, international business, marketing, management information systems, tax, not for profit, debate, sport, social, charity, academic school, faculty advisor, executive, participation, and the coveted overall title (won this year by Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan).

In most categories, each school presents a 20-minute pitch in front of a live audience and a panel of experts. The experts question the pitch team following the presentation. Points are awarded during this process.

UNBC won the accounting competition in 2012 and came third in the business strategy category.

In 2011 UNBC won the business strategy category and came third in marketing.

In 2010, UNBC took the gold in business strategy and tied (with University of Alberta) for the gold in the not for profit competition.

In 2009, Prince George's university won the international business title and came third in the tax bracket.

The 2008 edition of JDC West won UNBC the silver in the participation division.

In 2007, first place came to UNBC in the accounting and marketing categories, plus third in participation and international business.
