For the fifth year in a row, UNBC has been named one of Canada's Greenest Employers by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers project.

Those that make the list are recognized for environmental initiatives and programs, having successfully reduced their carbon footprint where employees are involved and that the initiatives are part of the employer's identity.

UNBC got the nod for its green university planning committee, its green fund to provide sustainability of projects on campus and its operation of a biomass gasification facility that uses wood residue from a local sawmill to produce clean reusable energy.

"Our employees and students have a passion for sustainability and we see their passion demonstrated daily around our campus," said Daniel Weeks, UNBC president.

"Their efforts mean that not only are we an environmental champion, but we do things that allow us to operate more efficiently as well. To be named one of Canada's Greenest Employers for the fifth consecutive year is something of which we should all be very proud."

UNBC was named one of B.C.'s Top Employers earlier this year, acknowledging good parental leave programs, encouraging a balance between professional and personal lives, and offering support to those who want to further their own education.
