The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) has ratified a new three-year collective agreement with a union representing about 400 employees.

CUPE Local 3799 represents employees providing service in a wide range of areas including academic program support, information technology, finance and administration, student counselling, facilities, maintenance, security, and support the staff at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

Members of CUPE 3799 ratified the agreement on June 27 and UNBC’s Board of Governors ratified the agreement last Thursday (July 11).

Highlights of the agreement include a two per cent compensation increase each year over a three-year term, access to training and development funding that will improve service delivery for students, increased paramedical reimbursements from $10 to $30 per visit, or updated Collective Agreement language to ensure 100 per gender neutrality.

“Our CUPE employees are valued members of the UNBC community and play an integral role in the daily operations at the University. I am pleased that both parties were able to reach a fair and equitable agreement that reflects the union’s interests while balancing our fiscal realities and strategic priorities,” said Dr. Daniel Weeks, president and vice-chancellor of UNBC in a news release.
