UNBC president Dr. George Iwama will be giving advice on a new social and economic development initiative.

Iwama is one of 12 civic leaders from across the province named to the B.C. Agenda for Shared Prosperity advisory council.

The council will provide oversight and commentary on the B.C. Chamber of Commerce and Business Council of B.C. initiative to generate new ideas for improving the conversation about the province's long-term potential.

As a part of the advisory council, Iwama will work with experts to draft policy, participate in regional and provincial summits and create a final report due by next September.

Other council members include Kim Baird from Tsawwassen First Nation, Sharon Singh, the principal energy advisor for Rio Tinto, Anthem Properties CEO Eric Carlson and Kra-Mar Investments co-owner Gerry Martin.

"The diversity in perspectives and common passion for our province will bring a unique, informed and balanced approach to our process," said Business Council of B.C. president Greg D'Avignon.
