For the first time in the 17-year history of UNBC, the faculty association has requested an arbitrator to settle negotiations with UNBC management and the Post-Secondary Employers' Association.
In the association's June newsletter, the faculty vice-president Erik Jensen expressed his dismay with the lack of progress in negotiations on monetary issues since bargaining began in April, saying UNBC salaries are among the lowest of any university in Canada.
The faculty association represents about 450 non-unionized employees, including faculty members, professional librarians, and senior laboratory instructors.
