A broken piece of equipment has delayed the repaving of Tyner Boulevard until the end of the week.
Originally scheduled to be closed to traffic between Aug. 4 and 14, the section of Tyner Boulevard between UNBC and the University Heights subdivision will now be shut down between Aug. 14 and Aug. 21.
Paving work was put off after a machine called a pulverizer broke down after doing work in the Okanagan, said associate public works director Gina Layte Liston.
"The piece needed for repair has to be brought from out of the country," she said of the contracted equipment that grinds down through the asphalt and into the gravel base.
"That part is compacted and then the new asphalt is placed on top. So when they do pulverizing, it actually strengthens that base that goes underneath the asphalt."
Tyner was closed for a couple of days last week to complete work on two culverts (installing one and repairing another).
To compensate for the delay, other road rehabilitation projects that didn't require the absent equipment were moved around, said Layte Liston.
Four other paving projects are scheduled to be completed this week (weather depending):
Simon Fraser Avenue between Selkirk Crescent and Gladstone Drive (an estimated cost of $265,000);
Kerry Street between Rainbow Drive and Davie Avenue ($104,000);
Boeing Road between the Old Cariboo Highway and 640 metres east ($120,00);
Thompson Drive between Henry Road and Park Drive ($145,000).
