Two UNBC profs on BC and Yukon Book Prize shortlist

Prince George’s Catherine Nolin and Grahame Russell are on the shortlist for the BC and Yukon Book Prizes for the 2022 Jim Deva Prize for Writing that Provokes for the book they edited, Testimonio: Canadian Mining in the Aftermath of Genocides in Guatemala.

Catherine Nolin is a professor and chair of the department of geography, Earth and environmental sciences at UNBC.

Nolin is also a social justice advocate that found her grappling for more than 25 years with the afterlives of the Guatemalan genocides. Nolin, along with Russell, has worked more than two decades to organize and facilitate field schools to Guatemala for undergrads and graduate students.

Since 1995, Russell has been the director of Rights Action. He is a non-practicing Canadian lawyer and also an adjunct professor at UNBC
