A multi-sport track-and-field athlete helped Prince George gain attraction in Kamloops this month.
Linden Spencer achieved a personal best in javelin that earned him a silver medal, and high-jumped to bronze at the 2019 B.C. Track and Field Club Championships, known in local terms as the ‘Jamboree.’
His arm got him his highest finish last weekend.
The Prince George Track and Field Club (PGTFC) member, originally from Quesnel, had six throws in the Under-16 javelin competition and on the second throw, he set a new career-high at 44.28 metres.
That number was good enough for a silver medal, missing out on the top of the podium to Cole Bibby (Kamloops), who set a new Canadian record for his age group at 60.94 metres.
Spencer beat out 10 other throwers to claim second place.
His second piece of hardware came from his legs, soaring over the bar in high jump to a bronze medal in his Under-16 category at 1.65 metres, clearing three of his four attempts.
The gold medal-winning jump was a tie between two athletes at 1.80 metres.
Spencer beat out eight other competitors for his podium position.

- 12th = High Jump, 1.55 metres
- 12th = Long Jump, 4.73 metres
- 12th = Triple Jump, 9.40 metres
- 23rd = 100-metre dash, 13.50 seconds
