Two Prince George Cougars have been invited to NHL rookie tournaments this week as free agent invites.
Defenseman Joel Lakusta and forward Jackson Leppard got the call to attend two different NHL rookie tournaments. Lakusta will play for the St. Louis Blues at the 20th annual Traverse City Rookie Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan from Sept. 7 through the 11th. The 20-year-old Sherwood Park, Alta. product tallied 9 goals and 33 assists this past season for the Cougars in 70 games.
Jackson Leppard will wear the colours of the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 2018 Prospects Showcase for Prince George. The resident of North Vancouver recorded 15 goals and 36 points last season for the Cougars. Leppard will participate in the 2018 Prospects Showcase in Estero, Fla. beginning on Sept. 8 until the 11th.
Additionally, the Cougars have trimmed their pre-season roster down to 27 players after two pre-season games over the long weekend. Nine players were released.
