Break out the adamantium!

Cariboo Cougars’ Brennan Bott and Mathew Magrath are about to become the newest Whitecourt Wolverines of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) after signing with the organization for the 2020-21 season.

Both Prince George products are coming off impressive two-year careers with the city’s under-18 AAA club.

Bott averaged over a point per game with 46 in 40 contests, including 21 goals and 25 assists.

Magrath made an impact at the blue line with 20 points and 11 coming from the power-play unit, which was the most of any defenceman on the Cougars this year.

Cariboo was about to play Fraser Valley in the first round of the 2020 playoffs before it was cut short due to COVID-19.

Whitecourt is one of the AJHL’s youngest teams after being introduced into the league in 2012.

The Wolverines have never won a league championship, but have a division title from 2017 and have reached the AJHL Finals in two of the last four seasons.

Last year, they finished third in the north division with a regular-season record of 32-17-9 and advanced to the league semi-finals after defeating Fort McMurray in six games.

The rest of the season was also cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whitecourt is located nearly 180 km northwest of Edmonton.
