Two bodies have been recovered from an avalanche that took place on the Lower Dore mountain range near McBride.
Four men from Alberta were snowmobiling on Saturday morning when the avalanche overtook three of them. One man was able to dig himself out immediately. The survivors dug out the third man but he was deceased at the time of recovery.
The two survivors could not locate the fourth man and went for help.
Conditions in the area were deemed unsafe and an attempt to search and recover was not possible.
On Sunday morning Search and Rescue, the coroners service and others put together a recovery plan and removed the deceased man by long line helicopter. Once it was considered safe the second deceased man was located a short distance away from the first in about 15 feet of snow.
The names of the dead men are being withheld. One was a 29-year-old from Ponoka, the other a 36-year-old from Sherwood Park.
The case was turned over to BC Coroners and further details will not be released by police.
