Two of the people arrested for alleged mischief and trespass at Premier John Horgan’s home in February have signed peace bonds, concluding the matter for them.

Regine Monika Klein and Mark William Nykanen signed the $500 peace bonds this month. The bonds will be in effect for two years.

A peace bond is a court order used to keep someone from committing or recommitting a crime. It comes with specific conditions to keep the peace.

The third person arrested, Howard Gerard Breen, has indicated that we will proceed to trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 10.

The trio were arrested during a protest at Horgan’s home in Langford for what they said was a show of support for hereditary Wet’suwet’en chiefs against the Coastal GasLink natural-gas pipeline in northern B.C.

The intent was to make a citizen’s arrest of Horgan that would keep him from the day’s budget announcement.

West Shore RCMP were called to the home about 8 a.m. on Feb. 18. The premier’s wife was in the residence. Horgan wasn’t initially at home, but he arrived with security personnel and spoke to the protest group.

The three people arrested refused to leave an “exclusion zone” established by police.

The group Extinction Rebellion has said it was behind the incident.
