The eighth annual Prince George Variety Children's Radiothon airs on The Wolf 97FM today and Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
The event will raise funds for children in the Prince George area who have special needs and their families.
The Variety Children's Radiothon introduces listeners to local children helped by Variety, as well as community projects Variety has supported. The 2011 event raised $46,603.
"We are thrilled to be back in Prince George and partnering with The Wolf 97FM for the eighth year in a row," said Barbie Hislop, executive director of Variety - The Children's Charity. "Since it began in 2005, the Prince George Radiothon has raised more than $300,000 for local families. We look forward to building on that momentum so we can help even more kids in Prince George in the years to come."
Over the past 18 months, Variety has distributed nearly $200,000 in the Prince George area, which has helped more than 40 local families as well as organizations like the Prince George and District Child Development Centre and the University Hospital of Northern BC.
In addition, last summer a 24-passenger Sunshine Coach was delivered to the Prince George Family YMCA. Vehicles like this are on the roads throughout BC, helping children who have special needs ride to and from places for therapy, learning, and recreation in comfort and safety.
This event is supported by The Prince George Citizen, The Wolf 97FM, 94X, Canfor, Commonwealth Financial, McDonald's, Kal Tire, TELUS, Four Points by Sheraton Prince George and other local businesses and individuals.
