Godric and Pam of hit show, True Blood, will be vamping it up at the Hot Blooded Ball, presented by the Prince George Public Library Friday night at the Ramada Hotel.

Allan Hyde, who stars as a 2,000 year old vampire on HBO's television series, will be joining Kristen Bauer, who plays vampire Pam, at the Halloween bash.

Jim Parrack, who stars as Hoyt, was originally scheduled to attend but canceled due to an emergency.

When Hyde and Bauer heard they'd be judging best male and female costume with winners getting a free trip to Mexico, they asked if they could enter the contest.

"What about if I came as Godric and Allan came as Pam? He'd win, right?" laughed Bauer.

All joking aside, Bauer knows exactly what she's looking for in best costume.

"I think I would be looking for what I admire so much in our costume designer, Audrey Fisher - the details. It's that follow through from beginning to end - the concept. That measures commitment and that will be big."

Hyde said he's looking for a fine balance of creativity and character.

"How much they are living and breathing the character," said Hyde. "Obviously something with blood or the vampire theme would be very cool."

Attending a library fundraiser set in Fangtasia, the vampire nightclub in True Blood, is a first for both guest stars. They agreed to take part in acknowledgment of the challenge libraries face to stay relevant in this high tech world.

"I read a statistic that 80 per cent of Americans had not read a book in a year," said Bauer. "I'm such a reader and such a lover of books and also I see that funding for libraries is being cut back. I am a big proponent of reading. I think that's how we're going to evolve - if we are."

Originally from Denmark, Hyde has never been to Canada, so this is a series of firsts for him.

He's never done a fundraiser before either.

"I'm really excited about coming up there," said Hyde. "This is definitely a good cause and libraries with the new technology - they seem a bit old fashioned. Books in themselves are getting competition from Kindles and things like that. I like reading books a lot and making it more appealing for people to go to the library is great."

Hyde said when he got the call to be on True Blood, he was two months away from graduating the Denmark equivalent of high school and he made the difficult choice to do the show, so now reading provides the knowledge he craves.

The Hot Blooded Ball is to benefit the Skylab project, a 1,000 square feet of new space on the adult floor of the Bob Harkins branch, allowing more Internet access, computer stations, a new computer instruction lab, information desk and shelving.

Guests will be treated to an array of ghoulish appetizers and the cash bar will feature several nightmarish drinks. The area’s top DJs will be pumping out the latest dance hits to get everyone’s blood flowing, providing the soundtrack for a great party with two of the stars of the sexiest show on television.

"It sounds like it's going to be a blast," said Bauer. "Anything we can do to entice people to read I think could be the secret to saving Earth, because it's about getting information, getting knowledge and expanding our minds - everything is reading."

Tickets to the library fundraiser are $80 each and can be purchased online at the library’s website www.lib.pg.bc.ca or by calling 250-563-9251 or 250-960-9710. Each ticket holder will receive a $35 tax-deductible receipt which supports the library’s renovation work.
