Truck driver sentenced for obstructing justice

A truck driver involved in a fatal collision south of Prince George nearly three years ago has been sentenced to a one-year conditional sentence and one year probation for obstructing justice.

A truck driver involved in a fatal collision south of Prince George nearly three years ago has been sentenced to a one-year conditional sentence and one year probation for obstructing justice.

Provincial court judge Ron Tindale issued the verdict Tuesday for Kamran Mohammad following a decision in May that Mohammad "knowingly lied" to police when he claimed his partner on the trip was actually driving the rig but was found not guilty of dangerous driving causing death.

The outcome is in relation to a Jan. 9, 2007 incident in which Mohammad's southbound semi crossed into the oncoming lane on Highway 97 South at Holmes Road, about 6.5 kilometres south of Simon Fraser Bridge, and struck a pickup truck at about 7 a.m.

Muriel Johnson, 55, died as a result of injuries suffered in a head-on crash while her husband, Richard, suffered serious injuries.
