The United Way of Northern B.C.'s Tree of Lights campaign raised $30,557, the social agency said Wednesday.
The goal was $30,000 heading into the holiday season. The campaign is centred on a Christmas tree placed atop the Coast Inn of the North and with lights added as donations accumulate.
The money will be used to fund programs and services addressing drug abuse and overuse and improve mental health and well-being of those in need.
UWNBC executive director Trista Spencer expressed gratitude for the support from local businesses and residents. "It’s a testament to the heart of Prince George, and Northern BC, and we are so honoured to be able to do the work we do to support those who need it most," she said in a statement.
