In addition to the Kettle Campaign, the Salvation Army has another fundraiser to brighten the lives of the less fortunate.
The annual Tree of Lights campaign begins Wednesday night, with a kickoff event at the Coast Inn of the North. Between 5 and 7 p.m., the community is invited for holiday refreshments, live performances and a visit from Santa.
Buy a bulb at $5 for the giant Christmas tree placed on top of the hotel and have your child's photo taken with old St. Nick.
Last year, the campaign raised more than $43,000 - it's second-highest total in the event's 25-year history. The best Tree of Lights campaign was in 2010, where it yielded $55,000 for the Salvation Army.
