Transit in Prince George will be free Friday after air quality advisory was issued Thursday.
The City's Free Fare for Clean Air Program starts midnight following an advisory alert and remains until midnight of the day the advisory is lifted
"This is important because it ensures that anyone going to work who left their car at home to take advantage of free ride will still have a free ride after work," Thursday's city release noted.
"The program is also an incentive for drivers to consider leaving their vehicles at home, which leads to reduced emissions and improved air quality."
The City's Clean Air Bylaw has been updated so that all open burning - including backyard burning and land clearing burning - is prohibited.
During air quality advisories that bylaw also bans recreational fires and street sweeping activities, the use of wood burning appliances, except for Sole Wood Burning Heat Users.
