The trails along Cottonwood Island Park are once again safe to walk on.

They were reopened this week, after they were closed at the end of May as a precaution in the face of rising water.

The trails escaped damage, city parks supervisor Chris Bjorn said.

"They weren't completely flooded, it was just all the low spots throughout the trail system that were flooded," he said.

Due to a combination of snow melt and rain, he said the river peaked at about 2 1/2 feet higher than its current level and doubts the trails will be closed again.
