Traffic enforcers keep busy

A total of 468 warnings and charges were issued when members of the Prince George RCMP municipal traffic services section joined forces with officers from the B.C. Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Unit last Friday and Saturday.

A total of 468 warnings and charges were issued when members of the Prince George RCMP municipal traffic services section joined forces with officers from the B.C. Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Unit last Friday and Saturday.

Six teams of one RCMP officer and one CVSE inspector hit the Prince George streets for two 10-hour shifts.

By the time their work was done, 11 vehicles were immediately removed from the road for mechanical reasons, including one that required the Prince George Fire Rescue to be called to plug a fuel leak prior to the vehicle being towed.

As well, 321 warnings were issued for mechanical defects requiring repair, 48 charges were issued for vehicle defects, including mechanical problems, faulty lights, and damaged or tinted windows and 32 orders were issued for full vehicle inspections within 30 days.

Also, 14 tickets were issued for seatbelt violations, 12 for driving on studded tires, 10 for speeding, six for electronic device violations and two for driving without due care.

The teams also issued two 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions and two three-day prohibitions for driving while impaired as well as two 24-hour prohibitions, one for drug use and one for alcohol use.

As well, five vehicles were impounded because the drivers were unlicensed, four drivers were cited for driving while prohibited and two drivers were found to have outstanding warrants against them.
