Police say seatbelts saved the lives of motorists caught in a three-vehicle accident north of McLeese Lake Wednesday.

The incident took place on Highway 97 South near Alexandria School Road. According to the results of an RCMP investigation, a semi-truck and trailer travelling southbound collided with a northbound vehicle. The force of the collision caused the northbound vehicle to hit another northbound vehicle and all three vehicles ended up in the ditch.

None of the vehicle's occupants suffered significant injuries.

"There is no doubt that the use of seatbelts was key in preventing injuries in this crash," said Const. Krista Vrolyk of the Quesnel RCMP.

The driver of the semi was issued a ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act.
