Thieves steal Christmas projector bought for terminally ill neighbour

It's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but when thieves come on to your property and steal things it sure doesn't feel like it.

A winter scene projector was bought and set up in Laura Mork Wilkinson's yard in Vernon to send a little Christmas cheer to their neighbour across the road.

The neighbour is terminally ill, and Wilkinson just wanted to provide something nice for her to look at during this incredibly difficult time.

"We put up these decorations and projector to put a smile on her face," she says. "We would've happily loaned it if they asked, but to take our things?"

This was the first time they used the projector. Wilkinson's husband put the projector out around 8:30 p.m. earlier this week, and when he went to turn it off at 10 p.m., the projector was gone.

"Our yard is pretty wide open and right on 23 St SE," says Wilkinson. "It was pretty brazen to wander into our yard and steal it while we were right inside."

Wilkinson says they will of course replace the projector, and this time they will take extra precaution by putting cameras on it.
