The search goes on

It's more than three years since 14-year-old Lucas Degerness went missing in Prince George, but the search has continued.

Prince George RCMP worked with Missing Children Society of Canada last weekend to search the Hudson's Bay Slough in the MCSC's ongoing investigation into the teenager's disappearance on June 7, 2007. Lucas was living close to the slough at that time.

Lucas had been in the PGSS principal's office for a meeting with his mother and left, apparently in a good mood, for his next class on that June morning. He did not arrive and has not been seen or heard from since then.

The search, which included use of specialized sonar and radar equipment, was prompted by information received recently on the boy's strange disappearance, said RCMP Cst. Lesley Smith, media relations officer.

Following the search, Lucas' mother, Georgina Degerness, released a statement thanking MCSC for the search of the slough and RCMP for continued support.

"Anyone with information on my son or any of our missing kids call MCSC toll free at 1-800-661-6160. Thank you, everyone, for your help."

Maria Sbert, director of MCSC's investigation unit said as a result of the search a key area of question in Lucas' case was thoroughly investigated and the findings turned over to RCMP for processing.

"The RCMP have a great partnership with MCSC and if information is provided by any support agencies we will be actively involved in order to investigate or follow up with any leads that could bring light to an investigation," said Smith.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Lucas or any other missing children is asked to contact MCSC confidentially at 1-800-661-6160 toll free or tips@mcsc.ca. MCSC investigator Dan Picken can be reached directly at 1-800-661-6160 ext. 229 or contact Prince George RCMP at (250) 561-3300.
