The little train that couldn't

For the fourth consecutive summer the little steam train at Fort George Park will not be on track, says the local engineer who's operated the train for more than 30 years.

For the fourth consecutive summer the little steam train at Fort George Park will not be on track, says the local engineer who's operated the train for more than 30 years.

Ron Walker said although the train's boiler is now fixed, the testing is done and the engine is ready for use, the necessary regulatory paperwork is taking longer than expected.

To operate the train requires certain permits from the B.C. Safety Authority in New Westminster and it won't be here in time to operate this summer, Walker said.

"Even if we had the paperwork in place to operate the last four weekends of the summer, the cost to the Fort George Railway Society for the permits and liability insurance would be more than $2,000.

"It just doesn't pay for that short amount of time," said Walker.
