There were more than nine million page views to the Prince George Citizen website during 2017.
Here are the top 10 online stories for 2017 from Jan. 1 to Dec. 26:
1. Prince George fire risk extreme by Ted Clarke had 32,308 hits online. The story offered a comprehensive look at how vulnerable Prince George was to the fire threat as the Cariboo forest fires raged on this summer.
2. Former MCFD manager faces child porn charges by Mark Nielsen had 30,341 hits online. The story talked about Edward Owen Berry, 51 who made his first appearance in court on Jan. 28 and is up for sentencing in 2018.
3. Police seeking fourth suspect in double murder by Citizen staff had 18,388 hits online. The police had initially arrested three people and were looking for the fourth suspect after two men, Thomas Burt Reed, 51, of Burns Lake and David Laurin Franks, 46, of Prince George, were killed during an incident police described as a targeted shooting.
4. From Hell Yeah to heck no by Christine Hinzmann got 17,112 hits online. The story was about creator, Scott McWalter, pulling Hell Yeah Prince George off Facebook on March 7, after he posted a notice that said John Brink had a lawsuit going before the courts. Administrators of the up-beat positive page disagreed with the contentious post and McWalter reacted by closing the page after negative comments were posted by the public. The closure was temporary but certainly caused a stir in Prince George's Facebook world.
5. RCMP officer speaks out about PTSD by Christine Hinzmann got 16,346 hits online.
Kent MacNeill, a local RCMP officer, exclusively told The Citizen he had PTSD in an effort to make sure no one else suffered in silence like he did. He also said he wanted to support Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty's private member's Bill C-211 that calls for the development of a comprehensive federal framework to address post-traumatic stress disorder.
6. Fire situation 'unprecedented' by Citizen staff got 15,906 hits online. The story told evacuees of the Cariboo wildfires they would not be going home any time soon.
7. Esther's Inn stamps out bed bugs by Christine Hinzmann got 12,708 hits online.
The story told of a complaint by a visiting member of the public that discovered bed bugs at the local hotel and the owner's response to it.
8. Police arrest three following double murder by Citizen staff got 12,434 hits online. The story talked about how Aaron Ryan Moore and Joshua Steven West both remained in custody, having been charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder with a firearm.
9. Trial begins for man accused of grisly murder in Fort St. James by Mark Nielsen got 11,243 hits online. The story talked about the beginning of the trial for James David Junior Charlie who admitted to helping dispose of the body of murder victim, Fribjon Bjornson, but denied killing him.
10. Local man arrested in 100 Mile House by Citizen staff got 11,248 hits online.
A man with a history of committing property offences in Prince George was arrested in 100 Mile House during the Cariboo wildfire evacuation in that area. Jamie Hal Hammerstrom, 38, was in custody in Kamloops on one count of breaching probation.
