A pair of mountain bikers were rescued from a snow-filled ravine after getting lost on Hudson Bay Mountain near Smithers on Sunday.

Smithers RCMP received a call around 3 p.m. on Sunday from a family member of one of the two men. One of the lost men was able to use his cell phone to text message his family, who called police.

Police were able to communicate with the men by text message to learn their whereabouts.

The men were trapped in a deep ravine near a waterfall. Snow, fallen trees and heavy rain meant the men were not able to climb back out of the ravine once they were in it. They had been disoriented after a minor injury, and heavy snow on the closed trails meant they had to change their normal route down the mountain.

Members of Bulkley Valley Search and Rescue recognized the area from the description and within an hour were able to locate the men.

Both men were cold and wet from the rain, but were otherwise unharmed.
