Telus warns customers about recent phone scam

Telus is warning about a new phone scam that tricks customers into giving out personal information.

Telus is warning about a new phone scam that tricks customers into giving out personal information.

Customers report picking up a phone call from a 905-395-XXXX number and hearing a recorded message telling them they are a valued Telus customer and will receive 3,000 travel dollars. To accept, they must press one and after doing so are connected to a person claiming to be a Telus representative.

This person then tries to extract the customer's personal information, most likely for identity fraud purposes. Telus advises anyone who receives a call like this to hang up.

Those who received a call and released personal information are asked to contact the police or call the Telus fraud team at 1-877-567-2062.
