A new wireless communications tower will soon be built in College Heights as public consultation has been completed.

The City of Prince George gave the go-ahead at last night’s (Aug. 19) council meeting for TELUS to build a new facility at 3401 McGill Cres. behind the Esso gas station off Domano Boulevard.

This is set to improve service for TELUS customers by erecting a 30-metre monopole and installing ancillary equipment.

“Cypress Land Services is representing TELUS on the proposed wireless communications facility which is set to provide better coverage and network for Prince George,” said City General Manager of Planning and Development Ian Wells. “No written comments were received through the consultation process.”

That consultation period ended on June 28, 2019; the initial information package was submitted to council two-and-a-half months before that deadline.

TELUS now has six months to begin construction of the new monopole, but there’s no official timeline at this point.

Back in June, the company announced a $150 million investment over the next three years for high-speed internet that will span Prince George, Lheidli T’enneh reserves, and northern B.C.
