A 15-year-old male was killed in a Christmas-morning crash on Highway 20 near Anahim Indian Reserve, the RCMP reported today.

The RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash at 8:30 a.m. on the highway, about 250 kilometres southwest of Prince George.

A Buick sedan had suddenly veered off the road striking a power pole, coming to rest in a culvert below the highway, said police.

One of the three passengers in the vehicle was fatally injured, while the two other passengers had serious injuries, said the RCMP. The adult male driver was uninjured.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving causing death, and later refused to provide breath samples, which resulted in further charges, said police.

The driver is being held in custody for his first court appearance in Williams Lake on Wednesday.

Power lines blocked the highway for several hours.

Names are being withheld pending the coroner's official cause of death of the 15-year-old, and the first court appearance of the driver.
