Police are on the lookout for an older man suspected of trying to lure a young girl near a Prince George elementary school on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect is described as Caucasian, 50 to 60 years old with a dark beard and mustache and wearing glasses and a dark green T-shirt and was driving a dark green pickup with a rack on the back.
He is alleged to have gestured towards a 12-year-old girl as she was walking home from College Heights elementary school on Simon Fraser Avenue and he was driving by in the pickup.
The girl ran back to the school and told staff and believed the man ran after her.
The incident was not reported to police until after 6 p.m., but RCMP were able to talk to the girl and her mother at their home.
Police are also asking for any witnesses to come forward, noting that the incident was reported to have occurred right after school when many parents were in the area waiting to pick up their children.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES using keyword “pgtips.”
