Police have arrested 28-year-old New Hazelton man in connection with a theft and tire-slashing spree.

The man was apprehended on Tuesday evening when Prince George RCMP were called to a report of a man trying to break into vehicles along the 400 block of Douglas Street.

Despite the suspect brandishing a knife, RCMP were able to handcuff him.

"Further investigation led police to believe that the suspect was also responsible for slashing a number of vehicle tires on the street and entering at least one residence unlawfully," RCMP said.

RCMP believe he was intoxicated on drugs at the time of the arrest. He was held in custody until sober and then released with documents for a future court date.

The suspect's name was not released and charge approval by Crown counsel remains completion of the detachment's investigation into the matter.
