A man suspected of threatening people with a long knife has been charged.

Matthew Neil Izony has been charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and two counts of breaching a release order, according to court records.

Izony was arrested on Thursday last week after RCMP were called to the area of Range and Wiebe roads in the Peden Hill area just before 2:30 p.m. and just as students at a nearby elementary school were about to be let out for the day.

RCMP flooded the area and had made an apprehension within less than 15 minutes of receiving the call.

Izony, who has an extensive criminal record, remained in custody as of Tuesday.
