Charges have been approved against a man following a series of events that sent a woman to Vancouver with serious injuries.

Farbn Marvin Japow, 21, remained in custody as of Monday on one count each of unlawful confinement, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, motor vehicle theft, assault with a weapon and assault.

He is suspected of forcing the woman into a grey sedan in the parking of the Econolodge Motel at 910 Victoria Street just after 3 p.m. on Sunday.

"The woman was reportedly screaming for help and continued to do so as the vehicle left the area," RCMP said.

Shortly after, police were notified that a car matching the description had crashed in the 7300 block of Boundary Road.

The woman was found ejected from the car and later airlifted to Vancouver.

According to witnesses, the driver attempted to violently carjack several vehicles of drivers who had stopped before a passerby voluntarily gave the man a ride.

Japow was arrested back at the Econolodge after a "non-lethal 40mm round was shot at a closed door to gain the suspect’s attention," RCMP said.

Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the initial incident or the subsequent crash, or anyone with dash cam footage of either occurrence, to contact an investigator by calling the non-emergency line at 250-561-3300. Quote file number 2022-37528.
