School's out for summer in Prince George.
On Monday afternoon, School District 57 advised summer school was cancelled this year after examining last Friday's Labour Relations Board ruling.
The interim order defined summer schools as either remedial programs for students in Grades 10 through 12 who failed courses during the regular year or those taking distance learning courses for the summer in those remedial programs.
As part of the determination whether summer school is an essential service in any given district, remedial summer courses could not be available during the following school year.
"Registrants do not meet the Labour Relations Board criteria and School District No. 57 is able to provide learning options required and stipulated by the Labour Relations Board ruling during its 2014-15 school year," said an update on the district's website.
Graduation program requirements will be addressed upon students' return to school in the fall.
In lieu of regular report cards, superintendent Brian Pepper will be signing and mailing out progress reports by the end of the week.
For students in Kindergarten through Grade 7, the reports will be a letter indicating the student will proceed to the next grade. Grade 8, 9 and 12 students will get marks that were entered up to June 20. Marks up to June 26 will be sent out for Grade 10 and 11 students.
