Enough is enough - no more bullying, says a College Heights Secondary leadership student.

"We're fed up with it," said Ashley Schmeisser, co-chair of the Pink Day anti bullying event held at the high school Wednesday.

Schmeisser said she and her friends are taking on the challenge of bullying head on.

"We're putting on some activities to raise awareness about bullying," said Schmeisser.

Included in the activities was a "balloon stomp" meant "to symbolize that we are no longer accepting bullying at our school," she said.

Leadership teacher Cindy Smith said 40 leadership students who were involved in Pink Day met after school and pledged to stop bullying.

"The students told the group how they are going to stop bullying and take an active role when they see it - not a passive one - and then we will revisit the issue every couple of weeks to report how each student is doing," said Smith.

Pink Day co-chair Sammy Arsenault said she took on the initiative for personal reasons.

"I was bullied almost every day last year and I know what people go through and it's got to stop," said Arsenault, a Grade 11 leadership student.

Bullying is often invisible to many parents, school staff and even other students, said Smith, but taken far enough, it can command a young victim's entire life, and it needs to stop.
