The YMCA of Northern B.C. is more than halfway towards its Strong Kids fundraising goal.

As of Thursday, the campaign has taken in $28,780, philanthropy manager Stephanie Mikalishen said just prior to the unveiling a wall naming more than 40 significant donors.

It's the largest number of donors the annual campaign has seen.

"To me it says that the YMCA mission is more relevant than ever and that our community sees the YMCA as the partner of choice," Mikalishen said.

The aim is to raise $50,000 by the end of August - enough to subsidize 210 children and youth attending Camp Kanannaq, the Y's Aurora Leadership program and the Neighbourhood Scholars pre-school program.

Staff payroll deductions account for $12,000 of the amount raised so far while more than $4,300 was raised through its Megathon event earlier this month.
