ICBC and police are launching province-wide counterattack road checks during July and August.
"If you drink and drive, prepare to get caught," said Alyson Gourley-Cramer, marketing and communications coordinator at ICBC.
"Since alcohol remains in the top five contributing factors for fatal car crashes, police will be out in full force this summer looking for impaired drivers at road checks across the province.
"ICBC and our road safety partners invest in public awareness activities as an effective way to change driver behaviour, save lives and prevent injuries,"she said.
In April, B.C. announced the toughest impaired driving laws in Canada, slated to take effect this fall in B.C.
The tougher penalties include longer driving prohibitions ranging three to 90 days - up from 24 hours, longer vehicle impoundments from three to 30 days - up from 24 hours, and increased financial penalties ranging from $600-$3,750 - up from $0 to $2,300, said Gourley-Cramer.
On Wednesday at 10 a.m. ICBC, RCMP and local youth will reenact a summer partying scene to illustrate the repercussions of getting caught driving while impaired.
The enactment, open to the public, will be held at the popular tubing and swimming launch on the Nechako River on Foothills Boulevard near the north lane of Foothills Bridge.
