A Prince George man accused of sexually assaulting two of his stepdaughters for as much as a decade, beginning when they were 12 years old, played favourites with the two girls as part of the abuse, court heard Friday.
"She was constantly put down and I was constantly praised in front of everyone about my looks, how good I was at my job, how well I handle people," the older of the stepdaughters, who is now 23, testified. "She was kind of treated like the not-so-good me."
He made body weight an issue in the house, said the stepdaughter, whose name cannot be published under a court-ordered publication ban against identifying the victims.
"He would constantly tell me I was fat and I wasn't attractive to him," she told the court and later added that after graduating from high school she lost a lost of weight but not in a healthy way.
Her sister also developed eating disorders, the court heard, as the stepfather constantly ridiculed her about how much she ate even though she excelled in high school sports, and put locks on the fridge and freezer in the household garage to control her access to food.
During the second day on the stand, the stepdaughter testified that when she was 15 or 16 years old, the family dog was brought into the master bedroom and peanut butter was spread on her genitals.
The stepfather took pictures and watched and then commented he would like to make a video.
"He told me that it would be a really nice gift for him, that it would show how much I loved him and appreciated him if I was to make a video," she told the court.
She said it was not something she wanted to do but over the years she learned that it was "easier to say yes than say no" and eventually made the video using a webcam in the master bedroom while the stepfather watched.
A third encounter also involving the dog and peanut butter occurred several years later, when she was about 21 years old, in answer to constant requests from the stepfather, the court heard.
"I just thought that if I did it again there would be another long break before the next time," she said and later added it was not recorded on video. She said the stepfather told her he also tried to introduce the dog to her sister.
He did coax her and her sister into sexual activity while in a jacuzzi located in the master bedroom when they were about 15 to 16 and 12 to 13 years old respectively.
"He told me that women are naturally attracted to each other and that it is normal for them to want to be with each other," she told the court. "He started bringing up me and [the sister] and how that it would be a safe and comfortable place for us to experiment.
"I didn't want to and he told me that it would be good for [the sister's] self esteem."
However, he also said that that during sex, her sister was "more vocal than me and that would make it more pleasant for him," the court heard.
On three occasions when the older sister wasn't vocal enough, he anointed her with oil on her forehead, nose, mouth, throat, nipples and vagina while praying.
"He was rebuking the spirits of evil and Jezebel so that I can be free with my senses," she said.
He anointed her anus one time because she did not want to have anal sex with him.
"He thought that if I was anointed, my body would understand and relax and accept it," she said.
She testified that he insisted she sit on his lap well into her teenage years, and once told her he liked to rub his penis on her bum.
She recounted that when she and her sister were working at a local fast food restaurant, they were required to send text messages with a schedule of their breaks and then he would show up to all of them.
"He was there all the time because my boss there had asked me why he comes all the time," she said.
The man is facing 14 counts in B.C. Supreme Court, 10 of which deal with sexual assault and sexual interference against the two stepdaughters. Two other charges relate to making or publishing child pornography and possession of child pornography. The final two counts relate to bestiality.
