An RCMP forensics team leaves a home Monday afternoon that was the scene of a stabbing over the weekend.

An arrest has been made in Saturday's stabbing incident at a downtown home.

Jacob Johan Vanderminne, 28, is in custody and has been charged with aggravated assault, after he was apprehended in Grande Prairie, Alberta on Sunday afternoon, Prince George RCMP said.

“Jacob Vanderminne’s arrest would not have been possible so quickly without information provided to police from the public,” said Cst. Jennifer Cooper.

Police were called a home at the corner of Vancouver Street and 11th Avenue at about 8 a.m. Saturday and found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to hospital where he remained in critical condition as of Sunday.

The attacker and victim are known to each other, RCMP have said.

The home remained cordoned off with police tape with RCMP vehicles parked outside as of midday Monday.

Vanderminne has a criminal record. On January 21, he was sentenced to one year probation for possessing a firearm contrary to an order and breaching probation. He had been in custody for 38 days by that time.
