The inaugural Smokin' Hot Chili Cook Off takes place today from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. on the 1200 block of Fifth Avenue.
Team Powerhouse Realty is hosting the event that brings together 11 businesses in a friendly competition to see who has the best chili.
"We just thought this would be a great community event," said Barbara Robin of Team Powerhouse Realty. "The staff here is very community minded, as most businesses are in Prince George, and we just thought it would be a fun thing to do before the weather changes too much."
Even if it is cold out, what better way to warm up than with a hot bowl of chili, Robin asked.
"The proceeds from this smokin' hot event are going to two very worthy causes, Habitat for Humanity because, of course, housing is very near and dear to our hearts, and to the rebuilding of the Ness Lake Bible Camp gym, which was devastated by fire."
Next year, the Powerhouse Team will choose two other charities to help, Robin added.
People are invited to sample each team's chili for $5, then vote for the best chili and decorated booth, then people can fill their bowl with their favourite and enjoy.
"We will make sure the winner gets fame, fortune and recognition during this charitable event," Robin said.
