Prince George RCMP nabbed a pair of flagrant speeders over the long weekend.

In one instance, police said a Ford Mustang was towed after the driver was caught going 74 km/h in a 50 km/h zone and then found not to have valid insurance.

In another, a driver failed to produce their driver's licence after being stopped for traveling 75 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.

In both cases, substantial fines were handed out, RCMP said.

With the help of volunteers, police also kept an eye out for drivers using their cellphones while behind their wheels. Eight drivers were issued tickets carrying a $368 fine as a result.

Out of the 1,869 drivers observed, volunteers identified 112 violations.

"Some were issued violation tickets, while others will receive a warning letter in the mail," volunteer program coordinator Mike Burt said.
